Spartan Varsity Comes Up Just Short Against North Cobb

22 Feb 2018 by Coach Searcy

Thursday’s game against North Cobb was a tough loss for the Varsity Spartans. The Spartans tied the game at 3 with a 3 RBI base clearing double by Ethan Mack in the top of the 5th. North Cobb scored a run on a 2 out error putting the Warriors ahead 4-3. In the top of the 6th, the Spartans would strike quickly getting two on with no outs. However, the 4-3 score would be the final as the rally in the 6th was ended by a double play leaving a runner at 3rd, then a fly out to center ended the inning.

It was a solid pitching performance by the Spartan pitchers. Casey Bowman led things off on the hill throwing four innings, allowing three hits and three runs while striking out one. Xavier Williams threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen giving up 1 unearned run while striking out 2.

Dominic Rutigliano led Campbell Spartans Varsity with two hits in three at bats. Ethan Mack had 3 RBI’s on a base clearing double. The Spartan offense had a solid 6 hit, 2 walk, and zero strikeout day.

Next up for the Varsity squad is a 2:00pm businessman’s special tomorrow (2/23) against Hiram at Lattanzi Field at the Spartan Baseball Complex where the first pitch will be thrown out by Richard Garland, Director of Smyrna Parks & Recreation, and Tommy Korver, Superintendent of Smyrna parks & Recreation. The Spartan Baseball Program wants to thank them for their support of Spartan Baseball and their efforts to provide a facility and a field that is second to none.
