Spartans Grab Lead In Seventh Inning To Defeat Pebblebrook

The Spartan Varsity defeated Pebblebrook 4-2 on Friday after taking the lead late in the game.

The game was tied at two with Campbell Spartans Varsity batting in the top of the seventh when Michael Braswell doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring Brian Deluyrea from 1st.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Pebblebrook tied things up at two. Clayon Dozier drew a walk, scoring one run.

Deluyrea took the win. He allowed one hit and zero runs over one inning, striking out one and walking one. Casey Bowman and Braswell entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Braswell recorded the last three outs to earn the save.

Andrew Herrmann started the game for the Spartans, allowing only two hits and one run over three innings, striking out four.

The Spartan offense racked up eight hits. Bowman, Ethan Mack, and Braswell each had two hits.

The Spartans take on region rival Westlake on Tuesday, March 20th, and Friday, March 23rd, in two very important matchups. It is likely the winner of the Campbell/Westlake series will go to the State Playoffs. Game time Tuesday is at 5:30 at Westlake and at 5:55 on Friday at legendary Lattanzi Field and the Spartan Baseball Complex.

Friday’s game will also be Smyrna Little League Night at the ballpark. SLL players wearing their jerseys get in free and will have the opportunity to win a chance to throw out the first pitch at the game.
