Spartan Varsity Clinches Lead In Eighth Inning To Defeat Westlake

Spartan Varsity took the lead late and defeated Westlake 4-3 on Tuesday. The game was tied at three with the Spartans batting in the top of the eighth. With bases loaded and two outs, Owen Wright scored the eventual winning run from 3rd when Andrew Whitcher beat the 3rd baseman to the bag on a ground ball off the bat of Michael Braswell.

Campbell Spartans Varsity fired up the offense in the first inning. Ethan Mack drew a walk, scoring one run and Braswell scored from 3rd on a wild pitch. Campbell led 2-0 at the end of one. Westlake tied it up and eventually took the lead 3-2.

The Spartans evened things up at three in the top of the seventh inning on a wild pitch by the Westlake Short Stop who came in as relief.

Andrew Herrmann was the winning pitcher for Campbell Spartans Varsity. He surrendered zero runs on one hit over three innings, striking out three.

Braswell started the game on the mound for the Spartans. He allowed five hits and three runs over five innings, striking out ten and walking zero.

The Spartans Varsity saw the ball well today, racking up eight hits in the game. Braswell and Owen Wright all managed multiple hits for Campbell Spartans Varsity. Braswell went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead the Spartans in hits.

The Spartans take on Westlake at the Spartan Baseball Complex on Friday. It will also be Smyrna Little League Night at the ballpark.

All Smyrna Little Leaguers in their jerseys get in for free with a few lucky ballplayers getting the chance to throw out the first pitch.

Game time is 5:55 with the fun beginning at 5:00.
