Spartan JV Splits a Doubleheader with Marietta This Past Saturday at the Spartan Baseball Complex and Historic Lattanzi Field

In Game 1, the Spartans fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 9-6 loss to the Marietta Blue Devils. Marietta scored on a single by Averill, a walk by Giles, and a walk by Dougherty in the first inning.

Despite the loss, the Silver & Royal did collect seven hits in the high-scoring affair.

Marietta got things moving in the first inning scoring two runs and then added 4 more in the fifth.

Christian Griffin toed the rubber for Campbell Spartans JV. He allowed six hits and seven runs over four innings, striking out one. Owen Wright and Corian Davis entered the game as relief, throwing one and one-third innings and two-thirds of an inning respectively.

Tristen Jensen went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Spartans in hits. The Good Guys tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. George Jackson led the way with two.

The tide turned in Game 2 as the Spartans rallied late to defeat the Blue Devils 10-8.

The game was tied at seven with the Royal and Silver batting in the bottom of the fifth when Rambo Fultz singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.

There was plenty of action at the plate as the Spartans collected six hits and Marietta had nine.

Marietta got things moving in the first inning scoring one run and then adding another 4 four runs in the second. The Spartans trailed 7-3 as they headed into the bottom of the fourth. Scoring 3 in the fourth and 4 more in the fifth, the Royal and Silver took the lead for good.

Fultz led the Spartans to victory on the hill. He went two innings, allowing one run on one hit, striking out one and walking one. Duncan Santos and Jacob Grantham entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Grantham recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Campbell.

Brendan Kraus started the game for the Spartans. He allowed five hits and six runs over two innings, striking out two Gibson started the game for Marietta. He lasted four innings, allowing three hits and six runs while striking out three.

Grantham, Kraus, Owen Wright, Santos, and Fultz each managed one hit to lead the Spartans at the plate.

The JV Spartans take on Westlake on Saturday in a Doubleheader at the Spartan Baseball Complex. Game 1 begins at noon with Game 2 to immediately follow.
