Big Region Win For Spartan Baseball over Westlake on Tuesday, 2-0.

20 Mar 2019 by Coach Searcy

The Campbell Spartans took a big step on their quest for back to back GA State Playoff appearances with a 2-0 win over a very good Westlake Lions team.

Michael Braswell and the Spartan defense shut down the Lions as Braswell pitched a complete game, one hit shutout while his defense played stellar, error-less baseball.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Nowlin for Westlake had ten strikeouts. For the Silver and Royal, Braswell struck out eleven and walked only one.

The game was tied headed into the bottom of the sixth when Junior Left Fielder Andrew Whitcher reached first on a dropped third strike error. He was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Sophomore Second Baseman Michael Herrmann. That is when the scoreless tie would be broken. Sophomore Pitcher Michael Braswell stepped to the plate and tripled into the right center gap scoring Whitcher. Junior Catcher Dominic Rutigliano then singled to left scoring Braswell. The two run lead would stand.

Braswell, Dominic Rutigliano, Freshman Short Stop Garrett DeHart, and Junior Third Baseman Ethan Mack each collected one hit to lead the Spartan offense.

The Royal and Silver will take on Pebblebrook Wednesday evening March 20 at Pebblebrook and Westlake again on Friday at Westlake.
