Spartan Baseball easily did away with Westlake 13-1 on Friday evening behind an impressive pitching performance by Andrew Herrmann and a Spartan offense that racked up 13 runs on nine hits.

The Sophomore Left Hander threw a complete game gem allowing only one run on one hit and striking out 15. In addition to a prolific Spartan offense, one that has scored 36 runs in its last 4 games, Herrmann was supported by a rock solid defense that once again committed zero errors.

The Spartan offense started early. In the 1st inning, Sophomore Michael Herrmann singled on an infield hit and scored when Junior Catcher Dominic Rutigliano doubled to right. Sophomore Aidan Daly, running for Rutigliano, scored when Freshman Second Baseman Garrett DeHart singled to center.

The Royal and Silver continued the offense in the top of the 2nd, taking advantage of and exploiting costly errors made by the Westlake defense and solid hitting by the Spartans, putting three across the plate. The inning was started when Junior Right Fielder Hassan Goggins reached on an error and Left Fielder Andrew Whitcher singled to center. Both scored when Sophomore Shortstop Michael Braswell tripled to center. Braswell scored on a single to left by Rutigliano.

The Spartan offense went on another two out rally and took advantage of costly errors in the 4th inning putting up another three runs. Sophomore Michael Herrmann, Braswell and Sophomore Aidan Daly all crossed the plate in the frame.

The Silver and Royal capped its impressive offensive night in the top of the 7th when four Spartans crossed the plate. The inning was highlighted when Junior Right Fielder Hassan Goggins took the first pitch he saw deep over the right field fence for his first homerun of the season scoring Dehart and Sophomore Center Fielder Owen Wright. Whitcher scored later in the inning on a passed ball by the Westlake catcher.

Spartan Baseball racked up nine hits on the day. Andrew Whitcher and Rutigliano collected two hits to lead the Spartan offense.

The Royal and Silver take on cross town rival Wheeler Wildcats on Tuesday, March 26, and Thursday, March 28, for two very important region matchups.
