Two giants fall in consecutive games as the Spartans take down another region #1, on the road, as the East Coweta Indians fall to the Silver & Royal, 4-2.

In back to back road games, the warriors clad in Royal and Blue struck down region giants Newnan and East Coweta.

The story for both games was the same – sound and stingy defense, great pitching, and a potent offense. Nineteen hits, outscoring the two teams 15 to 7, playing stingy & solid defense, and bringing a pitching effort that yielded only 4 walks while striking out 17 opposing hitters is a two game report Spartan Baseball has never posted against these two teams.

Last night against East Coweta, the Silver and Royal came out swinging, putting up two runs in the first inning when Junior Left Fielder Andrew Whitcher scored on a fielder’s choice by Junior Catcher Dominic Rutigliano and Sophomore Michael Herrmann scored on a single by Freshman First Baseman Tristan Jensen.

The Good Guys tacked on a run in the second when Junior Third Baseman Ethan Mack singled and then scored on a double by Junior Hassan Goggins as well as in the third inning when Jensen, after singling, scored on a hit off the bat of Sophomore Centerfielder Owen Wright.

The Spartans saw the ball well, racking up nine hits in the game. Junior Rightfielder Hassan Goggins, Freshmen Second Baseman Garrett DeHart, and Jensen each collected two hits to lead the Spartan offense.

The four runs would be enough due to solid pitching by Sophomores Andrew Herrmann, going 5 and 1/3 innings giving up 2 only runs and striking out 8 and Michael Braswell who struck out 3 in an inning and 2/3rds of relief to get the save.

The Royal and Silver take on region foe Pebblebrook on Friday night at the Spartan Baseball Complex on Alumni Night. Game time is 5:55.
