The Spartans defeated Marietta 3-0 on Wednesday as four pitchers combined to throw a 4 hit shutout.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Spartans (Varsity) pitchers struck out 14, while Marietta pitchers sat down 12.

The Royal & Silver got things moving in the first inning when Sophomore Garrett DeHart singled. After stealing 3rd following an error on a sharp ground ball from Xavier Williams, DeHart scored on a passed ball by the Marietta catcher. Solid base running and timely hits by the Silver & Royal would put 2 more runs on the board on singles by Senior George “TP” Lester, Junior Michael Braswell and a sacrifice fly by Senior Hassan Goggins.

Michael Braswell, who led the Spartans at the plate with 2 hits, was credited with the victory for Spartans. He surrendered zero runs on two hits over three innings, striking out six and walking zero. Andrew Herrmann came in and pitched 3 scoreless innings, striking out 8. Michael Herrmann closed things out by inducing a groundout from William Underwood in the bottom of the 7th to finish off the game.

Next up for the Spartans: Varsity – A 3-game tournament at Lake Point in Emerson, taking on George Walton Academy on Friday at 5:30 and on Saturday, Union Grove and Creekview at 5:30 and 7:30 respectively. All games are on Field 13. The Spartan JV will take on Johnson Ferry Christian Academy Saturday at 12pm at the Spartan Baseball Complex.
