Three Spartan Pitchers Rally Together To Shutout Whitefield Academy

28 Feb 2020 by Coach Searcy

The Spartan JV defeated Whitefield Academy 1-0 on Thursday as three pitchers struck out eight and combined to throw a one-hit shutout.

The Silver and Royal opened up scoring in the second inning when Freshman second baseman Kaden Baio singled on a 1-1 count, scoring Carter Evens who reached on an error by the Whitefield second baseman. That would be enough for the Spartans to capture their second win of the young season.

Freshman Brady O’Tuel earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound for Royal and Silver. He surrendered zero runs on one hit over four innings, striking out four. Sophomores Duncan Santos and John Anagnostis entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Anagnostis recorded the last three outs to earn the save for the Spartans.

Baio led the Spartan at the plate with two hits in two at bats. The Spartan defense played errorless baseball while the offense ran wild on the base paths, stealing eight bases with Sophomore Tristan Jensen leading the charge with two.

Next up for the Spartan JV is McEachern on March 2nd when they travel to Powder Springs to take on the Indians. First pitch is at 5:55.
