In its Region 2-7A home opener and in front of a capacity crowd, Campbell blanks Newnan 10-0 as Michael Braswell and a host of Spartans dominate the Cougars at the Spartan Baseball Complex and historic Lattanzi Field.

The bats were hot as the Spartan offense struck in five of the six frames scoring 10 runs on 10 hits. The Royal and Silver offense fired up in the first inning, when Dominic Rutigliano drew a walk and scored on a passed ball.

After posting a run in the second inning when Sophomore Tristan Jensen scored on hard hit ground ball by Junior Michael Braswell, the Silver and Royal crossed the plate four times in the bottom of the third on a double by Junior Aidan Daly and singles by Sophomore Tristan Jensen and Seniors Dominic Rutigliano, Ethan Mack, and Hassan Goggins.

Braswell got the win for Spartans, pitching a complete game three hit shutout, striking out eight and walking one. Mack, Jensen, and Goggins all two hits each to lead the Spartan offense.

The 5-2 Spartans are 2-1 in the last three meetings against Newnan, the 2019 Region 2-7A champions, dating back to last season and get ready to take on last year’s region runners-up, East Coweta, in two important Region 2-7A games, next Tuesday at the Spartan Baseball Complex and Thursday at E Coweta.
