The Campbell Spartans made a statement over the weekend against the PBR 19 rated team in Georgia and early leader of Region 2-7A, East Coweta. Even though after two tough losses, one 5-2 and the other a 3-2 loss in 13 innings, the Spartans made it clear that they are here to stay as region contender.

In Game 1, the Spartans lost 5-2 after late scoring by the ECHS. The Indians grabbed an early lead. But, the Spartans evened things up at two in the bottom of the fifth inning. After singling to center, Sophomore, Tristan Jensen, scored on a single by Junior, Michael Herrmann, who then scored on a single by Sophomore, Garrett DeHart. DeHart, Michael Herrmann, Seniors George Lester and Hassan Goggins, Junior, Michael Braswell, and Sophomore, Tristan Jensen, each collected one hit.

Junior, Andrew Herrmann pitched a solid game but took the loss for the Royal and Silver. He went six innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out seven.

Game 2 was an epic battle. It came down to the last play in the bottom of the 13th inning but the Royal and Silver ended up on the wrong end of a 3-2 scoreboard. The game was tied at two with East Coweta batting in the bottom of the thirteenth when the Indians singled in a run.

Spartans fired up the offense in the first inning when Michael Herrmann scored on an error from a hard hit ground ball by Senior, Ethan Mack. In the top of the seventh inning, the Silver and Royal tied things up at two when Senior, Xavier Williams, singled on an 0-2 count, scoring Junior, Michael Braswell, who had walked earlier in the inning.

The pitching was strong on both sides. In the 13 inning marathon, East Coweta pitchers struck out 11, while Spartan pitchers sat down an staggering 21. Braswell started the game for the Good Guys, allowing 6 hits and 2 runs over six innings, striking out 14 and walking one. Freshman, Ryan Gold, was very impressive, pitching six strong, scoreless innings giving up only 3 hits, striking out 7, and walking 3.

The Spartans racked up nine hits in the game. Xavier Williams led the attack going 3 for 3. Ethan Mack had multiple hits as well.

The 5-4 Spartans take on region foe Pebblebrook on Tuesday March 10 and Friday March 13.
