Spartan JV Take a Doubleheader on Monday Defeating Johnson Ferry Christian and Whitefield Academy

In Game 1, the Spartan JV defeated Johnson Ferry Christian Academy 5-0 on Monday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Sophomore, Gillen Joachim, induced a fly out from JFCA’s Fletcher Heacock to finish off the game.
In the second inning, the Spartans got their offense started on Freshman, Bryant James’, hard hit ball to second, scoring Sophomore, Chase Lavalley, who was hit by a pitch earlier on the inning. Chase Lavalley went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead the Spartans in hits. Freshmen, Kaden Baio and Jacori McGee, as well as Sophomore, John Anagnostis, and Junior, Owen Wright, had hits and RBI’s in the win.
Anagnostis was the winning pitcher for Spartans. He went six innings, allowing zero runs on two hits and striking out seven. Joachim threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
In Game 2, a walk-off single propelled the Royal & Silver to a decisive, dramatic victory over Whitefield Academy, 4-3.
The game was tied at three with Spartans (batting in the bottom of the seventh when Freshman, Carter Evans, who went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Spartans in hits, singled on a 0-2 count, scoring Sophomore, Gillen Joachim.
The Silver & Royal tied things up at two in the bottom of the 3rd after Junior, Owen Wright, reached on a fielder’s choice, scored on a hard hit ball to shortstop by Kaden Baio who also scored when Jacori McGee doubled to left.
Sophomore, Ethan Fuller started the game for Spartans. He surrendered three runs on four hits over five innings. Freshman, Brady O’Tuel, and Sophomore, Duncan Santos, threw one inning each in relief out of the bullpen.
The Spartans stole seven bases during the game with Jacori McGee and Sophomore Gillen Joachim leading the way with two each.
The Spartan JV squad will take on Westlake on Thursday at the Spartan Baseball Complex, first pitch at 5:55.
