The Spartan JV takes care of Westlake 8-1 on Thursday in front of a sellout crowd at the Spartan Baseball Complex & Historic Lattanzi Field

The Spartan bats and the base paths were even hotter when Campbell, playing errorless baseball in the field, easily did away with Westlake 8-1 on Thursday.

In the first inning, Spartans got their offense started when Kaden Baio singled on a 1-1 count, scoring Jacoree McGee who had singled to lead off the inning. The second run of the would come when Baio scored on a passed ball.

The Spartans notched three runs in the second inning. Ethan Fuller led off the inning with a single to shortstop and later scored on a fielder’s choice ground ball by Carter Evans. Sophomore catcher, Jacob Grantham, walked and his courtesy runner, Wyatt Harper, would steal second and then score on a McGee single. In the next at bat, Baio singled to right advancing McGee to second. Two pitches later, McGee would score on a wild pitch. After two frames, the Good Guys were up 5-0.

Adding a run on the 5th when Sophomore pitcher Gillen Joachim scored on a wild pitch and then two in the 6th on a walk by Harper, a single by Sophomore, Duncan Santos, a sacrifice bunt by Sophomore, Ethan Fuller, and a sacrifice fly to left from the bat of Freshman, Brady O’Tuel, the Spartans wrapped up the 8-1 victory.

Gillen Joachim was credited with the win for Spartans, surrendering only one run on three hits over three innings, striking out four and walking one. Duncan Santos threw four innings in relief out of the bullpen.

The Spartans scattered six hits in the game. Baio and McGee each collected two hits to lead the Spartan offense. Stealing 10 bases on the evening, the Silver & Royal offense tore up the base paths. Kaden Baio had three, Jacoree McGee, Bryant James, and Wyatt Harper each had two.

When baseball resumes at the Spartan Baseball Complex, the JV will take on Wheeler, Westlake, and a host of other great local teams.
